General Description Provides humane care to all animals throughout their stay at Citrus County Animal Services while following best practice protocols and handling techniques.
The primary work schedule for this full-time position is Thursday - Monday, 8:00 AM to 5:00 PM (hours vary on Thursdays); includes nights, weekends, and holidays.
EMERGENCY RESPONSE/RECOVERY ACTIVITIES All employees will be required to work before, during, or after an emergency.
During an emergency, employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location, and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens.
Emergency response duties may also include driving and/or operating a county vehicle or equipment and employees must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.
Essential Functions Provides daily care to all animals including cleaning and sanitizing kennels.
Performs Intake exams thoroughly, efficiently, and humanely, administering vaccines, preventative treatment, blood draws, and scheduling.
Monitors the animals mental and physical well-being.
Provides daily enrichment to all animals.
Provides exceptional customer service to citizens and volunteers.
Documents and maintains accurate and time sensitive record keeping of animals including behavior.
Demonstrates ability to learn how to use animal handling tools efficiently and humanely.
Creates a clean and welcoming environment for citizens and volunteers.
Participates in maintaining a positive and effective team player environment.
Performs humane euthanasia of animals when warranted.
Upholds and engages in the progressive mission of Citrus County Animal Services.
Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Requirements Education, Training, and Experience High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Working knowledge of different breeds of animals and experience in animal care.
Prior experience dealing with the public desirable.
Certificates, Licenses, Registration, Skills Valid Florida Driver License or must obtain within 30 days of establishing residency in Florida.
Must have or be able to obtain within six (6) months of employment Euthanasia certification.
Working knowledge and skill about humane best practices of care, restraint, and handling of animals.
Ability to work after normal business hours (may include nights, weekends, and holidays).
Prior experience working in Pet Point preferred.
Must have sufficient physical strength and agility to handle or restrain large or potentially dangerous animals.
Requires ability to maintain courteous and effective relations with County staff, elected officials, community interest groups and the public.
Must have strong working knowledge of computers and be proficient in the use of Microsoft Office Suite of Products (i.
e.
, Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.
).
Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days certification in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses: IS-100.
c: Introduction to the Incident Command System (ICS); and IS-700.
b: An Introduction to the National Incident Management System Physical Requirements/Work Environment Requires standing and walking most of the time.
The job involves frequent lifting and carrying up to 50 pounds.
The job requires frequent bending, squatting, crawling, kneeling, balancing, twisting, and reaching above shoulders, and on occasion climbing, jumping, and throwing.
The job requires the completion of tasks that involves simple grasping, pushing, pulling, fine manual manipulation, and typing.
The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, depth perception, hearing, and speaking.
The job may risk exposure to extreme noise.
