The Parks and Recreation Division performs comprehensive grounds maintenance responsibilities encompassing a wide range of facilities and amenities, including parks, cemeteries, beaches, boat ramps, fishing piers, docks, play equipment, Thor-Guard Lightning Detection Systems, sports fields, and selective landscape care for County buildings.
As the Grounds Maintenance Coordinator, you will oversee small scale landscaping operations, ground maintenance and park improvement projects in the County.
This position creates schedules and verifies tasks related to Grounds Maintenance.
Performs work according to some procedures but will exercise discretion and how and when to complete tasks under general supervision.
The primary work schedule for this full-time position is Monday through Friday, 6:30 AM to 3:00 PM.
Essential Functions Supervises, plans, and coordinates work of assigned staff.
Reviews and evaluates employee performance and completes performance evaluations.
Counsels staff and initiates commendations or disciplinary action when appropriate.
Drives and/or operates a county vehicle or equipment and must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.
Assists in Grounds Maintenance staff when necessary, assists with Grounds Maintenance budget process.
Inspects contract mowing jobs, new projects, and facility conditions.
Inspects playgrounds, lighting systems, park facilities and sports fields, lightning detection systems, boat ramps, piers, and park amenities.
Makes minor repairs in parks and on County properties as needed.
Creates schedules, fills out paperwork and attends meetings and classes.
Assists with disaster preparedness and emergency response in event of a natural disaster or other emergency event.
Performs other duties as required.
Minimum Requirements Education, Training, and Experience High School Diploma or GED equivalent.
Five (5) years’ working experience with computers and experience in turf industry with prior supervisory experience preferred.
Requires successful completion of classes in turf grass maintenance or grounds maintenance.
Certificates, Licenses, Registration, Skills Valid Florida Driver License (or must obtain within 30 days of establishing residency in Florida).
Must have or be able to obtain from the Florida Department of Agriculture, Pesticide Applicators License (Core, Ornamental/Tuff) and Playgrounds Safety Inspector License within 6 months of employment.
Must have sufficient physical strength, agility, and stamina to perform assigned tasks under adverse conditions.
Ability to use effectively standard maintenance equipment and hand tools.
Ability to work after normal business hours (includes nights and weekend) to respond to emergencies.
Ability to effectively communicate (verbally and in writing) in a clear, confident manner using proper grammar.
Requires ability to maintain courteous and effective relations with County staff, elected officials, community interest groups and the public.
Must have strong working knowledge of computers and be proficient in Microsoft Office Suite of Products (i.
e.
, Outlook, Word, Excel, etc.
).
Must have or be able to obtain within 90 days certification in FEMA National Incident Management System (NIMS) courses: IS-100.

The job involves frequent lifting and carrying up to 10 pounds, and occasionally up to 50 pounds.
The job requires frequent bending, squatting, kneeling, balancing, twisting, and reaching above shoulders, and occasional climbing and throwing.
The job requires the completion of tasks that involve simple grasping, pushing, pulling, fine manual manipulation, typing, operating foot controls/levers, driving automotive equipment, working in darkness, and operating a manual transmission.
The job requires normal visual acuity and field of vision, depth perception and color vision, hearing, and speaking.
The job may risk exposure to adverse weather, moving machinery, fumes and gases, electrical hazards, unprotected heights, and extreme noise.

Emergency Response/Recovery Activities All employees will be required to work before, during, or after an emergency.
During an emergency, employees may temporarily be assigned to work and perform duties outside the normal scope of their position, location, and work schedule to fit the needs of the County and its citizens.
Emergency response duties may also include driving and/or operating a county vehicle or equipment and employees must obey all safety policies, and roadway rules and laws.
