JOB SUMMARY This position reports directly to the Boat Captain and provides maritime entertainment in a welcoming atmosphere for the residents and visitors to Lake Sumter Landing.
Public relations and safety of passengers are of prime concern.
Assist the Captain and Boat Crew to ensure that all “boat passengers” have a safe and enjoyable trip on the excursion boats.
Be available for work during a designated work time.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES (Includes, but not limited to) General/Administrative Acknowledges and welcomes all visitors upon entry to the boat dock in a positive and cheerful manner and provide accurate information in response to all guest questions.
Interact with young children (guests) in a manner that both entertains and quickly builds trust.
Makes sure boats are clean and free of bugs and spiders at all times.
Ensures the safety of all the passengers while on the boat.
Follows boat tours laid out script highlighting the “History of Lake Sumter;” Ability to memorize and deliver script as written.
Keeps an on-going inventory of the supplies on hand and advise the Recreation Leader-Boats or Captain of any items needed.
Maintains an orderly, safe, and clean environment on the boat and within the dock area; follow cleaning check off list posted at dock.
Makes sure boats are prepared and in position for starting the daily tours.
Be at work and ready to start promptly at the beginning of scheduled shift and complete assigned shifts as an active team member.
Assists with requested facility activities and events, including but not limited to socials, lifestyle events, and global events etc.
Answers cell phone by identifying self and boat tours.
Monitors and check weather forecast for inclement weather predictions, if forecast is outside of allowable range (per VCDD written inclement weather policy) check with Recreation Leader, and Captain; to determine if operations are canceled.
Abides by Boat Tours dress code at all times, wearing proper attire to perform all job duties.
Confirms that all children under 10 years of age are fitted with an appropriate size life vest prior to boat departure.
Assists Recreation Managers/ Supervisors as requested for boat tour events such as theme socials, special holiday celebrations, and resident club group private ride.
Assists Director of Recreation, Recreation Manager, RFM, and Recreation Supervisors in the performance of other assigned responsibilities as needed.
Events/Activities Assists in planning and implementing special events on boats.
Incident Reporting Follows incident reporting protocols for all incidents relating to self, residents and/or guests, Including but not limited to health, safety, lost items, and or facility conditions by reporting same immediately to Recreation leader and /or Recreation manager at the time of such incident, or no later than end of shift.
Finance Opens and/or closes boat tours cash box as per specified procedures.
Sell the tickets, reconcile the monies, and fill out the paperwork for the daily trips.
Follows District cash handling procedures for collecting any monies.
Assume responsibility for cash handling and ticket sales during the shift by confirming the opening change fund is correct, making spot-check cash and ticket counts during the shift to confirm balance, and double-checking the daily report at shift end.
Record keeping Performs recordkeeping, including log daily attendance, weather conditions either manually or via computer, as directed and within designated timeframes.
Recordkeeping may include, but is not limited to, entering attendance data, weather conditions.
Additional Performs other duties as assigned.
May be expected to perform additional duties in an emergency.
ESSENTIAL EXPECTATIONS OF PERFORMANCE AND BEHAVIOR (Includes, but not limited to) Cultivates and maintains effective working relations within the department, the District, as well as outside of the organization.
Models behavior to the District Core Values at all times.
Fosters a teamwork environment.
MINIMUM EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE (Includes, but not limited to) High School or GED; or one to three months related experience and/or training in lieu of education.
MINIMUM CERTIFICATES, LICENSES, REGISTRATIONS CPR/AED training.
Valid Florida Driver’s License required.
All candidates and employees must successfully pass background and drug screening.
MINIMUM KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES (Includes, but not limited to) Knowledge Demonstrated knowledge of District and Department policies and changes/updates to ensure the ability to abide by and enforce same as it relates to daily duties and responsibilities.
Skills Strong work ethic and commitment to providing optimal Customer Service.
Proven intermediate or better proficiency level in Microsoft Word, Excel (formulas), and Outlook.
Abilities Frequently throughout the course of daily duties must be able to successfully lift and/or carry 20 – 50 lbs.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, as well as a professional appearance and demeanor.
Well organized and able to successfully multi-task in a fast-paced environment to meet multiple demanding deadlines.
Ability to work flexible hours including weekends and a willingness to serve (or substitute).
Ability to work in wet and / or humid conditions and outside weather conditions with a temperature range of 45 to 95 degrees.
Ability to work independently and comfortably open and close a boat dock, which may include working with limited natural light source dependent upon time of day/year.
EQUIPMENT Position regularly requires the use of: Pressurized water hose (standard garden hose with pressure nozzle).
VHF radio.
Cell phone.
Weather radio.
Office equipment, including but not limited to telephones, personal computers, and productivity software.
