Custodian/Driver
POSITION SUMMARY:
Drives a Salvation Army vehicle in order to transport passengers to and from Salvation Army activities.
Drives a Salvation Army vehicle to pick-up food donations and deliver to The Salvation Army Food Services.
Performs light non-skilled maintenance, runs essential errands, and helps ensure the neatness of the campus building and grounds.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: This position description should not be interpreted as all inclusive.
It is intended to identify the major responsibilities and requirements of this position.
The incumbents may be requested to perform job-related responsibilities and tasks other than those stated in this position description.
Driver responsibilities: Provides transportation for members to and from the Corps each Sunday.
Provides transportation for children to and from afternoon activities.
Provides transportation for Home League members to and from the Fellowship Hall.
Provides transportation for children to and from day camp and during day camp trips.
Provides transportation for groups for summer camp.
Picks-up and delivers miscellaneous items as needed.
Delivers/picks-up mail to/from the post office.
Drives carefully and observes/complies with all traffic signs and road/weather conditions to ensure the safety of passengers.
Parks vehicle in a safe and clearly marked parking space.
Locks vehicle doors when vehicle is not in use.
Fuels vehicle in accordance with state gasoline regulations and The Salvation Army standards.
Logs all mileage on standard forms; ensures the accuracy and completeness of the same.
Arrives at destination according to schedule or telephones ahead when severe delays occur.
Maintains control of passenger activities by prohibiting unsafe or non-Christian behavior.
Custodian responsibilities: Picks up and empties trash as necessary, both inside and outside the building.
Performs basic grounds maintenance.
Picks up food donations.
Performs transportation of materials and supplies between the warehouse and the office/store campus.
Helps prepare food boxes as needed.
Assists in setting up meeting rooms; sets up tables and chairs; puts ice in glasses and sets out drinks.
Assists in monitoring light fixtures to ensure all light bulbs are in working order; replaces light bulbs as necessary.
Performs light non-skilled maintenance.
A/C filters, tightening door handles, clearing clogged drains, etc.
OTHER RESPONSIBILITIES: Schedules routine maintenance (oil change, tire inspections) of The Salvation Army vehicle to ensure safety of passengers and long life of vehicle.

Washes and cleans vehicle regularly.
Opens/closes building as scheduled; displays special signs as needed changes marquis signage at the office and corps as needed.
Assists the public in unloading and carrying donations.
Assists in performing building maintenance and repair work by carrying supplies, etc.
Assists in performing grounds keeping work.
Drives Salvation Army vehicle to pick-up and/or deliver mail and other miscellaneous items or to transport passengers on occasion.
Performs other related work as required.

and Two years experience operating an automotive vehicle, and six months experience performing general custodian/janitorial duties, or any equivalent combination of training and experience which provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities.
LICENSES AND CERTIFICATIONS: Valid State Driver's License.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Knowledge of acceptable driving techniques and practices.
Knowledge of safety precautions associated with transporting passengers.
Ability to drive a passenger vehicle ensuring the safety of passengers and protection of the vehicle.
Ability to read and follow maps.
Ability to gauge time needed to arrive at destination.
Ability to perform general maintenance and cleaning activities for buildings and grounds.
Ability to follow instructions and work independently.
MENTAL AND PHYSICAL ABILITIES: Ability to meet attendance requirements.
Ability to read, write and communicate the English language.
Ability to drive a vehicle in heavy traffic and extended trips.
Ability to spend the night away from home due to extended trips.
Ability to exert the physical energy required to performing housekeeping and minor maintenance work.
Ability to lift objects that weigh up to 25 lbs.
on a frequent basis.
Ability to perform continuous walking, stooping, standing, and climbing.
WORKING CONDITIONS: Work involves driving a vehicle where there may be physical discomforts associated with changes in weather such as rain, cold, snow, heat or discomforts associated with long distance trips or heavy traffic.
Work is performed in a normal office environment with some exposure to outdoor temperatures, dirt and dust, and/or disagreeable sights and odors.
