The System Technician I (SST I) is the highest level of advanced technicians and is responsible for the maintenance, construction, and design of Opticaltel headend facilities as well as the forward and return path operations of the fiber and coaxial systems.
*System Technician - Specific Job Duties:*
* Performs advanced outside plant OSP operations to support the Service Tech II position including diagnosing advanced service issues and design changes
* Responsible to construct, over-build and/or retrofit headends per site specific requirements and operational plans.
* Maintains all services within the headend including the DOCSIS CMTS, satellite IRDs, encoders, modulation equipment, etc.
* Responsible for the return plant operations and the proper alignment and RF configuration of all DOCSIS based carriers within the headend.
* Provides direct support and insight into new system designs based on company needs, system capacities and network design criteria.
* Responsible to work with Service Tech II to maintain proper fiber light levels at all fiber nodes and transmitter and receiver locations within the headend.
* Completes quarterly system maintenance inspections and provides detailed reports on the findings to management.
* Maintains system components within the headend including IRDs, network switches, routers, CMTS and all other equipment to maintain proper operation.
* Works with Engineering to maintain IPTV channel lineup, MPEG assignments, transport streams and associated networking equipment.
*Minimum Job Requirements*:
* Ability to lift up to 75 pounds and operate at heights up to 40 feet using extension ladders and/or bucket truck.
Ability to work while standing 50-70% of the time.
* Work in all weather conditions and in various spaces such as attics and crawl spaces.
* Work in areas near power lines and active electrical services.
* Familiarity with computer operating systems and a variety of customer devices including smartphones, computers, routers, modems, set top boxes and wireless devices.
* Ability to and willingness to learn to use various handheld devices including signal level meters, spectrum analyzers, digital multi-meters as well as computer provided laptop and various software.
* A valid driver’s license with a satisfactory driving record that fall within company requirements.
* Completes all necessary paperwork associated with all jobs during his/her shift
* Must be able to work nights and weekends, variable schedule(s) and overtime as necessary.
