Position: Dragline Operator (Quarry) Reports to: Quarry Manager At Ash Grove Cement, people are our first priority.

Summary: Operates a power-driven crane (dragline) equipped with a dragline bucket, suspended from the boom by cable to excavate or move aggregates such as sand, gravel, rock, clay, and mud from an open pit/quarry/lake.
What you’ll be contributing: Operates dragline powered by diesel/hydraulic and electrical in and around the excavating area as safety permits.
Moves hand levers and depresses pedals to rotate crane on chassis and position boom above excavation point, to raise and lower boom, to lower the bucket to material, to drag bucket toward crane to excavate or move material, to place a bucket over unloading point, and to tilt bucket to release material.
Conducts routine equipment checks for proper operation.
Maintains mechanical condition of dragline by inspecting and reporting items needing service or repair to Quarry Supervisor and/or maintenance personnel.
Performs routine maintenance such as lubricating, fueling, and cleaning.
May service and perform repairs to dragline with maintenance personnel as needed.
Makes daily workplace inspections and pre-shift equipment inspections.
Operates equipment efficiently to limit downtime and minimize costs.
Ensures efficient and safe operation of equipment.
Complies with all Safety, Health, Environmental, and other Company policies, procedures, and requirements.
Performs other duties as assigned.
To succeed in this position, you will need: High school diploma or equivalent.
Minimum of two (2) years of operating heavy equipment in an excavating environment.
Prior experience operating a dragline is preferred.
License: valid driver’s license required.
May be required to return to work during non-business hours in emergency situations and to perform work on a scheduled stand-by assignment.
May be required to work shifts.
Ability to perform tasks that include driving, walking, climbing equipment, working within confined spaces, and lifting up to 50 lbs.

Cement Manufacturing - Knowledge of raw materials, methods, and the tools involved in the mining, production, shipping, and packaging of cement.
Mechanical - Knowledge of equipment used, machines, and tools, including their uses, repair, and maintenance.
Engineering and Technology - Knowledge of the practical application of the technology used and manufacturing of cement.
This includes applying principles, techniques, procedures, and equipment to the design and production of cement.
Environmental – Knowledge of proper allocation of waste material.
Ability to safely work in an outdoor environment with frequent exposure to heat, cold, dust, and noise.
Ability to perform tasks that include frequent sitting, standing, walking, climbing equipment, and working within confined spaces to access and inspect equipment.
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs.
What to expect in a cement environment: Work to be performed in a shop environment as well as outdoor exposure throughout the plant.
Mild exposure to cement dust, heat, cold, and noise requires compliance with specified safety guidelines and procedures.
Exposure to high elevations of up to 250 feet in height.
Exposure to all weather conditions.
Normal operation of mobile equipment may result in jarring and vibratory exposure.
